Street Plans Principals Tony Garcia and Mike Lydon were interviewed this week on The War on Cars podcast. The episode explores how different cities across the world have responded to the COVID 19 pandemic. From the City of Oakland, CA, repurposing 74 miles of its streets for cyclists and pedestrians, to London banning cars in its financial center, cities and towns are rapidly re-programming their streets to give human beings the space that once belonged to motor vehicles.
Garcia and Lydon talked about the positive changes resulting from the spatial reallocation of our streets and think that cities can start exploring ways to make some of these changes permanent.
